We anticipated paradise but we discovered a home.
The allure of the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches brought us to Oarsman’s Bay Lodge, but the community on Nacula Island is what will bring us back.
Greeted with a big ‘BULA!’ and smile from Oni and others, Oarsman’s Bay Lodge brought guests authentic Fijian culture while providing luxury amenities and untouched surroundings.
The beachfront bures (see accommodation) are beautiful, clean, and spacious, and feature my two favourite things of beach-style vacations: outdoor showers and plenty of outdoor lounge space.

Right in front of the bures is a stunning beach and lagoon, featuring a nice sandy bottom that made it easy to walk in and out of the water effortlessly. We also got to snorkel in the reefs that weren’t far from the shore.
We played hard but relaxed even harder! The hammocks, loungers, and their iconic deck make it hard to leave, but it was still worth adding in a little adventure. We filled our days with sunrise hikes, paddle boarding and scuba diving at the neighbouring diving experiences (see exploration).

Joe and George were wonderful guides taking us to the Sawa-I-Lau Caves as well as Honeymoon Island, a remote island with the perfect beach for swimming and snorkelling. Add that to your bucket list of life experiences!
In between adventuring and lounging, the meals supplied by the lodge were incredible (see dining). Ben and Ana (to name a few of the team/staff) provided wonderful service! The food was comparable to a luxury restaurant, and live music was even performed on a nightly basis.

The Oarsman’s Bay community provided the most generous and loving hospitality that I had ever experienced through any of my travels! A week was not long enough to enjoy the life here on Nacula Island.
